The scholars reached a consensus that it is customary to face the Kabah, sit down, recite Bismillah, drink the water three times, and give thanks to Allah while sipping the Zamzam water. When consuming any beverage, it is customary to sit down, say the bismillah, sip it three times rather than all at once, and say Alḥamdulillah (All praise is for God).

But as stated in the hadith below, it is likewise permissible to drink Zamzam water while standing:

Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) Zamzam water to drink while he was standing”

Consequently, the scholars advise us to perform dua and pray for anything we like, having complete faith that Allah would grant our wishes. and douse our face, head, and chest with a small amount of the Zamzam water.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah, 3062; this is a hasan hadith. Scholars and righteous people have experienced this – they have drunk it with the intention of fulfilling some need such as healing from sickness or being freed from poverty and distress, and Allah fulfilled these hopes).
